Diodon, a startup founded in 2015 in Toulouse, France by Roman Luciani and Antoine Tournet, is marketing a line of three rugged inflatable c-drones suited to hostile conditions.
Deflated, the multicopter arms protect the nacelle and payload in a small, portable package. The arms can be inflated by hand, or with an electric pump in under a minute. The units are said to be waterproof and very robust, capable of landing and taking off from water, rocks, sand, and snow, and can handle winds of up to 20 knots. A ruggedized waterproof control tablet is available. Luciani and Tournet, students at ISAE-Supaero (Institut Supérieur de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace), have been aided by the institute’s lab resources.
