LightPath Technologies has received an order for more than 50,000 optical assemblies used in drone camera systems, adding to a series of defense contracts from the same customer. The company did not identify the customer or disclose the financial value of the latest order.
The order expands LightPath’s role as a component supplier to the unmanned systems market at a time when defense organizations are increasing purchases of lower-cost drones and related equipment. The company said it is working to increase manufacturing capacity and automation as demand for its optical products grows.
A series of defense orders
LightPath said the latest purchase follows two earlier orders from the same defense customer. In October 2026, the customer placed a $6.3 million follow-on order for optical assemblies used in counter-drone systems. In July, orders from that customer totaled $13 million.
Together, those earlier contracts were worth more than $19 million, according to the company. The newly disclosed order adds volume but cannot be assigned a precise revenue figure because its terms were not released.
| Order | Value or volume | Application |
|---|---|---|
| Latest order | More than 50,000 assemblies | Drone camera systems |
| October 2026 order | $6.3 million | Counter-drone systems |
| July 2026 orders | $13 million | Defense applications |
LightPath CEO Sam Rubin characterized the new order as a significant milestone for the company’s drone business and said the business is focused on expanding production to meet defense demand. The company’s products therefore serve two connected segments: imaging equipment carried by unmanned aircraft and optical components used in systems intended to detect or counter those aircraft.
Link to U.S. drone procurement
LightPath’s announcement comes alongside broader U.S. efforts to field larger numbers of affordable unmanned systems. The U.S. Department of War’s $1.1 billion Drone Dominance Program aims to deploy more than 200,000 low-cost drones, according to the report on the order.
That procurement effort covers equipment used for drone imaging, navigation and other mission functions, creating demand not only for complete aircraft but also for specialized components. LightPath’s disclosed orders illustrate how suppliers positioned further down the defense-drone supply chain can benefit from that demand, although the company has not disclosed how much revenue the latest purchase will generate or when deliveries will be completed.
